Introduction

Welcome to my study on Horizon Cinema, an exciting mobile app concept for booking movie tickets online. This project is part of my Google UX Design course, where I delve into crafting an intuitive and user-friendly experience that brings the joy of movie-watching right to your fingertips.

My role

My role as UX designer in this project is designing and researching for Horizon Cinema from conception to delivery. With responsibilities to brainstorm and come up with a design solution by creating paper wireframe first then convert it into digital wireframe.

Goal

To draw and keep customers, we’re developing a movie ticketing app for Horizon Cinema. Main goal of the product is to compete in the market, improve sales and customers satisfaction by offering the ability to book car park in advance, accessibility for wheelchair users and friendly to non-native speakers by providing multilingual supports in the app.

Understanding the users

Every age group are considered as target audience but we focused on users who wants smooth movie-watching experience and wheelchair users.

To gain deeper insights into my target users and their requirements, I developed user persona and identified their pain points for a comprehensive understanding.

User persona

Pain points:

  1. Accessibility
Physically disabled people on wheelchair that want to enjoy movies.

  2. Planning
Most movie theater don't allow users to book car park in advance, which don't give users freedom to plan their trip in advance.

Process

Started the design process by brainstorming possible design for the apps and sitemap for web version:

Then I begin to create lo-fi wireframe:

Wireframe for web version in both desktop and mobile size:

Testing

After completed digital wireframe, conducted a usability study with 5 participants to get their feedback and compiled the data in a spreadsheet as below:

Result

In summary, the wireframe testing yielded the following results:

Final design

After carefully considering the valuable feedback received, I made necessary adjustments and refinements to the design, resulting in its finalization. The feedback played a crucial role in enhancing the user experience and ensuring the design perfectly aligns with the project's objectives.

Mobile design

Responsive web

What I learned in this project

The initial concepts for the application merely initiate the journey, as I realized during the development of the Horizon Cinema app. Every version of the app's design was shaped by functionality assessments and user input.

During the course, I've learned a lot about the end-to-end of design process from emphatize users, define their needs, ideate solutions, create prototype and test out the design.
